So yesterday when I returned from celebrating the 4th
of July in Kumasi, I came to my home to find out that I now have electricity!
Sort of. My family has built a shop in our house and they needed to put in a
generator to sell meat in a freezer. So now they turn it on for a while once a
day, and I can charge everything! I am so ecstatic it is not even expressible.
My room has been wired for electricity since I got here, ready and waiting for
the government to bring power to our village. With the way it is hooked up with
the generator I now have light in my room and all the outlets in my room work.
I am still in disbelief a little. I guess this means I can’t impress Ghanaians
I meet on the road by telling them I stay at a place with “no light” as they
call it here.
For the holiday I got together with other volunteers and we made hamburgers, corndogs, fruit salad, cole slaw and guacamole. It was quite fun. We also had a dance party and some of us may have been standing on tables to dance. :)
Im keeping this one short, but I will definitely be updating more now that I can use my computer more often and with more convenience.
Nancy!
ReplyDeleteFinally you update this blog of yours and with some great news. I know you had mentioned trying to get internet at your family's house - is that now possible with the generator? Or do you just have a cellular network card of some sort for your computer?
Hope all is well,
Peace and love,
Stan
